This combination is mainly used to kill the parasites, bacteria and used in various infections.

Indications

• It is mainly used in vaginal infection. It exerts its effect by mixing with the vaginal fluid and further kills the inside pathogenic microorganisms, and thus prevents the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.
• Metronidazole treats ameobiasis

About Composition

Povidone iodine:

It is a kind of iodine disinfectant which directly causes protein denaturation, precipitation of bacteria, and results in the death of pathogenic microorganisms. Therefore, it is effective in disinfection and sterilization.

Metronidazole:

it is antibiotic belongs to the nitroimdazole antibiotic that works against the bacteria and parasites .

Aloe Powder:

aloe vera powder is topically used to prevent ulcers and enhance the process of healing in case of dermal injuries e.g. burns ,skin infections, wounds, inflammation, herpes Aloe vera is very suitable for wound dressings.

Mechanism of action

Iodine is considered as the active constituent that exerts microbicidal actions. Free iodine releases from the complex and penetrates into the cell wall of microorganisms and damage the protein and nucleic acid and inhibit it synthesis. Whereas metronidazole acts against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa, binds dNA and electron-transport proteins of organisms, blocking The synthesis of nucleic acid .

Side Effects

Common Side Effects:

• Vomiting
• Mild to moderate diarrhea
• stomach upset
• anorexia
• Dizziness
• sneezing or runny nose
• Dry mouth or metallic taste of the tongue
• Dark urine
• irritation in the tongue
• excessive vaginal discharge and itching .

Serious side effects:

• confusion
• mood swings
• fits
• difficulty in speech
• Stiffness of the neck

Contraindication

• contraindicated in hypersensitive patients
• contraindicated in CNS disorders
• donot use it in neonates
