Overview

ATMOCLOB-GM is a skin ointment. A combination of Clobetasol Propionate, Miconazole Nitrate, Neomycin & Chlorhexidine Gluconate. Clobetasol Propionate is a highly active corticosteroid. Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent.

Indications

  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Moist, weeping areas of skin
  • Cutaneous candidiasis infection

Mechanism of Action

Clobetasol propionate is a type of medicine called a topical corticosteroid. It works by stopping skin cells releasing various inflammatory substances that make blood vessels widen and cause the skin to become red, swollen, itchy and painful. It reduces the swelling, redness and itching and so helps prevent scratching that can further irritate the skin.

Neomycin is an antibiotic medicine used to treat infections with bacteria. It works by causing bacteria to produce abnormal and faulty proteins. This ultimately kills the bacteria and clears up any infection.

Miconazole is an imidazole antifungal agent that is used topically to treat fungal infections. Miconazole prevents fungal organisms from producing vital substances required for growth and function. This medication is effective only for infections caused by fungal organisms. It will not work for bacterial or viral infections. Miconazole interacts with 14-α demethylase, a cytochrome P-450 enzyme necessary to convert lanosterol to ergosterol. As ergosterol is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, inhibition of its synthesis results in increased cellular permeability causing leakage of cellular contents.

Chlorocresol works as preservative.
